Graduation:
TBD
Where to go: Use the Google Map below to obtain directions to the USS Hornet Museum in Alameda, California. Visit the museum's site for more details: http://www.uss-hornet.org/
After your Cadet completes in-processing, only NLCC Cadets, NSCC officers/staff, and authorized personnel are allowed in the post-processing area.
To-do: Sit with your Cadet and carefully look over the information in the cadet packet found through the Home Port Portal as well as the remainder of this site.
Sea bag: Work with your local unit Commanding Officer, Executive Officer, Training Officer, etc. to ensure that your Cadet's sea bag has all the required items - and none of the contraband items. During check-in, each sea bag will be emptied and examined by NLCC Orientation staff before your Cadet is allowed aboard the ship. Contraband items will be taken, labeled, and stored until the end of Orientation (including cell phones, tablets, fidget spinners, etc).
Documents and forms: With your cadet, read over the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) documents and Standards document located on the Cadets page. Make sure that he/she understands the type of conduct required as well as the type of conduct that is not allowed at Orientation.
Photographs: Show the photographs to your Cadet so he/she has an idea what to expect. Our staff of officers have been conducting NLCC Orientations together for several years - we love working together to make the NLCC Orientation a fun and educational experience for young cadets. Our goal is to help form them in the traditions of the US Navy: honor, courage, commitment.
The environment: Discuss with your cadet that this is an immersive military environment. Our goal is both to form the Cadets while providing a safe, encouraging atmosphere. This is not "boot camp." This is Orientation. We strive to leave a positive and lasting impact on your young Cadet. Most of the officers are mothers and fathers as well so they know what it is like when Cadets leave home for training. We understand the trust you place in us by allowing us the opportunity to guide and care for your child during the NLCC Orientation.
Medications: If your Cadet requires prescription medications, make sure your Cadet has the required medical form, signed by the doctor. Contact your local unit's Commanding Officer or Administrative Officer for details and further assistance. A missing or incomplete form during in-processing means that we cannot accept or administer the prescription medication and this means that there is a possibility that Cadets will be turned away.
Who to contact: Due to the large number of potential Cadets, our staff is unable to field questions from parents or Cadets prior to Orientation. The COTC (Commanding Officer Training Contingent) cannot field parent or Cadet calls/emails. The Commanding Officer or other assigned officers from your local unit are your first stop. It is their duty to attempt to assist you and in the event that they cannot, to reach out to the appropriate staff member at NLCC Orientation.
Remember that this is a youth organization formed in the traditions of the military. We strictly abide by the chain of command. Direct parent or Cadet contact with Orientation staff prior to Orientation is jumping the chain of command. Once Orientation starts, you can email the Orientation staff, who will direct your inquiry to the proper authority: tcsmb@pcr12traincon.org. This email will not be checked until Orientation begins.
